Further on Deoria Tal trek, the trail to Chopta has lush green meadows with panoramic view of Himalayan peaks. This trail further takes you to the Tungnath temple, which at an altitude of 3,660 m, is the highest Shiva temple in the world. Deoria Tal seems just like entering a scenic painting with animals & birds around a crystal clear lake in which you can see the reflection of the mighty Chaukhamba peak.
Beyond the Tungnath temple, there is 1.5 km of challenging trail with sudden changes in the terrain which brings you to the Chandrashila peak (4,130 m). The peak has a temple dedicated to Chandra devta (Moon God). Chandrashila peak gives ultimate paniramic views of higher Himalayan peaks like Kedarnath, Chaukhamba & many more.
Brief Itinerary
Day 1: Trek from Sari village to Deoria Tal (4.5 km)
Day 2: Deoriatal to Chopta through Rohini Bugyal (14 km, trek 7-8 hour approx.)
Day 3: Trek Chopta-Tungnath (3,660 m),Chandrashilla Summit (4,130 m) and back to Chopta (trek 7-8 hour / 10 km approx.)
Post breakfast, start the 3 km trek from Sari village to Deoria Tal. You also have an option of a small sightseeing tour near the campsite. After a short while on the trail, you start getting view of the crstal clear Deoria Tal lake which shows reflections of surrounding Himalayas. Your trek to Deoriatal will be lined by the holy rivers Ganga and Alaknanda.
After an early breakfast, start the trek to Chopta. As one walks along the ascending trails, one appreciates the soothing scent of oak & pine trees from the mixed forests. The snow capped scenery will revitalize you & make the long trek look like a nature walk. You will be lucky if you spot the beautiful bird of this place named as “Monal”. A number of trekkers also spot deer’s in the vicinity. Once you reach Chopta you can take rest for some time and get re-energised after a refreshing cup of tea and snacks. If lucky, you might even spot beautiful & rare Himalayan bird called “monal” & some deer near Chopta. Reach the campsite at Chopta to enjoy evening meals around bonfire.
Take an early breakfast to start the trek towards Tungnath temple where you will experience mental calm, peace & spirituality. Besides dense forest scenery around the temple, one can also see mountain eagles here. Hike about 1.5 km further on a challenging gradient to reach the Chandrashila summit (4,130 m) which offers breathtaking Himalayan views. Enjoy & photograph at the summit for 30-45 mins & then start to trail down and reach Chopta by 2 pm.
